    "Academic Fitness" assessment separate from "Business Fitness" is a very interesting idea

    The business case for the RFP moved on a couple of fronts: one, the buy-in that had been built at the exec level for the creation of our EA function as a key support for growing decision and strategy support institutionally; and two, application rationalization as a subset of our work with the tool having a tangible ROI.

    Yes, there’s some clustering in the Invest quadrant to be sure.  We have made some adjustments to the rubric that’s used for the surveys.  By and large though, the discussions we’ve had with the business units subsequent do reinforce that the portfolio is generally healthy from a fitness perspective.

    WashU started exploring acquiring an EA Tool around 2021 and finally conducted an EA Tool RFP last year.  We also chose Ardoq but are not as far along with our implementation.

    Business fitness rubric has three question around business value and reliability etc.     Academic fitness rubric has those three question turned around to elicit value accrued to academic strategy

    We have a CMDB in our ITSM platform (ServiceNow).  There are some efforts underway to integrate Ardoq with SN to keep some elements in sync.  We deliberated internally on how far to go with that and consulted with Gartner and ultimately decided to keep the two largely separate, the integration is largely for the app portfolio so that tickets and change can be categorized appropriately.

    We have been thinking about relying on the CMDB as the record of truth on systems and owners and the EA Tool to be a consumer of the data for reporting and analysis.
