Agenda and Summary

Today’s meeting is to hear about the current status of the CommIT project and information about participating in a pilot of the service.

Ann West presented a series of slides that outlined the problems to be solved by CommIT and the value proposition.

In summary, CommIT will run a single sign-on service for participating organizations, with the purpose of providing credentials and authentication for potential college students. CommIT will provide a process for matching electronic records for college applicants and institutions, through federated SSO.

Tim Cameron reviewed the CommIT pilot and the deliverables. The goals of the pilot are to:

  • Test the infrastructure to ensure proper functioning
  • Test the process flows to ensure ease of use
  • Validate the value proposition
  • Inform the final production service functioning and features
  • Inform the marketing and communications of the final production service
  • Determine the help desk and support requirements

Pilot participation:

  • The call for pilot participation (for higher ed) closes Oct. 1, 2013
  • The call for vendor participation closes Nov. 1, 2013
  • The pilots will last somewhere between 1-18 months

There is a cost associated with pilot participation to cover the expense of site process integration. However, the $5,000 fee is waived for those who are both members of PESC and InCommon participants. Those interested should email Tim Cameron (tcameron7185@gmail.com)

Signing up for the pilot does not commit an institution to commit to production – that is the next step. The full pilot information packet will be available August 14. The pilot will be limited to 3-5 institutions and 1-3 vendors, to keep things manageable.

Ann West, Tim Cameron, and Shel Waggener are all willing to meet with potential pilot participants and stakeholder for discussion and questions.
