NSC Meeting Report
------------------
David reported on the meeting with Dan Boehmer and Doug Falk from NSC where
he and Bob lead a discussion about using federated identity management (idm)
to address existing security and ease of use issues. NSC is interested in
exploring this further.

Meteor would like to partner with NSC to provide the link between themselves and
NSC' huge HE customer base. One issue for NSC, though, is that Meteor's requirement for the
security level of the incoming campus credentials is much higher than what
the vast majority of HE campuses support. NSC is now scratching their head
about what to tell their campus members regarding access to Meteor.

To ensure we're in sync with the community, we need to work with the
standards committees. Maybe we should include our discussions with NSC with
Michael Sessa from PESC and see if this fits with their work. Since NSC has
90% of HE as members, having the organization support federated idm would be
quite a driver for a common infrastructure. We may want to encourage a NSC
representative (probably Doug) to join the EA2 committee. (The Clearinghouse
is already a PESC corporate member).

The following action items were identified to follow up on this discussion:

[AI] - David will follow up with Dan and Doug.
[AI] - Ann will ping Doug and offer to find answers to any questions that
come up in their evaluation.
[AI] - Nancy will contact Michael Sessa about possibly including NCS on EA2.

AACRAO Technology Conference Track session
-----------------------------------------------------
The group reviewed the items on the ATC program and agreed to deliver the
Federated Identity track session. We then edited the title/abstract and
identified those on the call who were planning to attend:
- Nancy Krogh
- Karen Schultz - possible
- David Yeh
- Ann West

[AI] Ann will recast the abstract to reflect the suggestions and send out to
the list for final review.

Face-to-Face Meeting
------------------------
We discussed several options for the f2f meeting at the ATC.

- We could meet with vendors that have been approached already by one or
more campuses about this federated idm issue. From the ATC exhibitors list,
these could include Avow Systems, CollegeNet, ImageNow, National Transcript
Center, Sntial Technologies, SunGuard, and NSC. [AI] Nancy will find out if
Michael Sessa is attending ATC. [AI] David will find out if NSC is attending ATC.

But do we have a good list of the challenges in this space to present to the
vendors? Do we need to finish our work with developing the use cases?

- We also discussed meeting with a broader group of Registrars to discover a
more diverse set of issues and possibly develop more formal support for
federated idm when talking with vendors. This would be a way of collecting
interest and leveraging this to involve AACRAO more formally. There are some
Registrars already interested in this at Northwestern and Wisconsin, for
example. [AI] Ann will invite Joanne Berg, Registrar from Wisconsin, to join
the group.

Again, do we need to develop initial use cases to demonstrate how federated
idm would address a few challenges?

The group was undecided about what tack to take and decided to discuss this
further on the next call.

Next Call
---------
We decided to have two more calls before the ATC to determine what we'd like
to solidify out plans for the meeting. Proposed next call is Friday, June 4
at 3:00 Eastern. Ann will send out a call for schedules.
