Survey
Mark has been in touch with College & University and Ann has been in touch with EDUCAUSE.

Mark will talk with AACRAO about the concept of co-publishing in both publications. Ann will contact EDUCAUSE with the same query.

Linda is working on collapsing some of the questions/answers that are similar and also some cross-tabulating with different questions. She has weeded down the number of surveys to those that have responses and are doing some sort of distance education (around 76 respondents). Most of the responses came from registrars or admissions offices. She is also collapsing some response categories (such as ranges for size of institution, for example. Linda and Mark have started looking at how to aggregate the data – she will start with a document that has a narrative and summary of results.

The group discussed best practices, practices that have some challenges, and recommended practices. This will all be part of the analysis. In general, there is a lack of tying practices to levels of assurance, except in isolated cases. Mark pointed out that the practice of building these identity systems to stay in touch with potential students have grown up faster than the standards behind the practices.

Ann has created an “article development” page on the wiki and done a fair amount of work in writing up the “process proposals.” See:

Number 2 “Knowledge-based Identity Proofing” is particularly interesting.
