Discussion

*Status of Alpha*

COmanage Alpha RC 4 is available for download. Username and password is COmanage.
Digant has started getting Sympa and Drupal working in COmanage. Chris is integrating Confluence. Digant spoke with Nate about integrating Shibboleth.
The target is to have new VM version ready by Wed night April 8 and have an internal review Friday April 10.
[AI] (Digant and Chris) will have a new VM image for internal review, hopefully by Wed. night April 8.
Digant will not be on the COmanage call on the April 17.
Digant commented that he thinks the new approach (providing a VM image rather than installer) is simpler and better in terms of preparing for Internet2 SMM.
Q: What applications will be included in Comanage for SMM?
A: Drupal, Sympa and Confluence will be there for SMM.

*Goals for Internet2 Spring Member Meeting*

Ken's desired outcomes for COmanage at SMM:
1. Reinforce concept of domestication
2. Freeze the marketplace.

[AI] (Heather) will prepare the roadmap to be offered in handout form at the Internet2 Spring Member Meeting.
[AI] (Renee) will provide support for Heather in creating a COmanage write-up to go with the roadmap.https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/COmanage/COmanage+Product+Roadmap

*Supplemental Grant*

Ken reported that we need to apply for supplemental grant (20% of original grant amount) by end of May. At that point there will be a need to show some traction in science and engineering community.

StevenC has identified a nationwide group of doctors in health area (with leader in Providence) that could be a test site for COmanage and could possibly express endorsement for a supplemental grant.

Ken suggested that we could probably also get an endorsement from LIGO.

*Collaboration with Science Gateway*

Tom noted that NSF values their Science Gateway program.  Purdue is looking at Shibbolizing one of the Science Gateway portals.  Also work on Shibbolizing Teragrid is ongoing. It would be worthwhile to coordinate those efforts with COmanage. We should do this soon to ensure relevance.

Ken has spoken with Jennifer Schopf from NSF about potential COmanage coordination with Science Gateway. She connected him with a program officer that supervises the grant for Science Gateway.  Ken needs a half-page write-up on this topic.

[AI] (Ken) will send an outline to Steven, Tom and Digant as a basis for talking to NSF about collaboration with HUBzero.
Tom mentioned there are also SAML delegation issues and implications for simplifying authentication and X.509.

*News from MIT Kerberos Consortium*

Bob recently spoke with Steve Buckley, director of MIT Kerberos consortium. The consortium is considering looking at ways to address security needs of the many small organizations that are starting to run IT operations. An example of the problem is the hacking of the computers of the organizational arm of Dalai Lama.
Microsoft, which is part of the Kerberos Consortium, did not object to the consortium taking up such a project, even though the work may overlap with the Microsoft Active Directory work. There may be some interest from the Ubuntu organization.

The connection with COmanage is that there are similar motivations, but a different market. There could be some collaboration down the road. This could be worth pursing at executive director level sometime.

Q: Did Steve Buckley say anything about how they are thinking about LDAP within the consortium?
A: Kerberos and LDAP integration is still an unsolved issue. But it is getting a little traction these days.

Tom noted that U. Chicago is using the Duke plug-in as part of integration with the Medical Center.
