The Internet2 Trust and Identity community has issued a new release of its TIER software, (Release 17040*). The release includes a simplified installation process and a TIER Beacon function that will help developers and investors understand deployment trends. This also begins the TIER continuous release process, in which updates will be incorporated into the software as soon as they are ready for production, rather than waiting for a pre-determined release date.

TIER (Trust and Identity for Education and Research) is a community-driven consistent approach to identity and access management. The TIER software includes the latest versions of three open-source software components (Shibboleth, Grouper, and COmanage) packaged in Docker containers for more efficient deployment and configuration.

The current release includes instrumentation called the TIER Beacon, a which gathers product version information. Developers will use the aggregated information to make decisions based on deployment trends and the use of certain functionality.

Information about the current release and links to download the components are available on the Internet2 wiki. General information about the TIER Program, including both the software and campus practice sets, are on the Internet2 website.

The TIER team looks forward to your feedback on the TIER adopters email list.
