Virgin Islands
UVI is moving forward with connectivity to Internet2. Hope to have it up by the end of May 2009.

July 2010 regional backbone complete

West Indies
UWI peering with Internet2 is almost complete. Their next step is to connect to their other campuses.
Mexico
plan to upgrade capacity using electric grid fiber which is currently used very inefficiently
1G to 40 cities
10G to El Paso
Cuba
ALICE2 has resources to connect Cuba, but they have not shown interest in connecting
currently submarine cables go around Cuba by ~12.5 miles; could easily/quickly extend to the island
