MEETING NOTES:

  1. Roll Call, Agenda Bash, Approve Minutes, Intellectual Property Rights Policy Reminder http://www.internet2.edu/membership/ip.html
  2. *Brief* updates from each of the 8 pilots
    1. IlliniCloud/NCSA – Still on path. Making linkages, contracts are signed. Colleagues have participated in doodle poll. Two main conferences on the horizon to attend for them are SETDA and CoSN. They will have good results from pilot districts. State Board of Education will also be attending. Formulated timeline for 4th quarter in integrating school districts. There is an implementation model that can be applied to other districts in the state.
    2. MCNC – Steve Thorpe has been working with Davidson Community College. There were a few issues that were resolved. IDP is working. One service provider for the early college high school program would be the student portal, however they are going to charge for SAML interface development. They will be setting up the other portals first
    3. Nebraska – Are populating the directory server with students and staff. There are 86 school districts have been targeted for the pilot – there are 238 school districts in the state. They are aware of foreseen issues on scaling. Shibboleth training has attracted 10 K-12 people. The idea of ID Management and InCommon is getting traction. Gluu in process of getting set up. They are looking at InBloom. Initial plan is to build a data warehouse. The team was at the LRMI conference in Denver. ILSE project was focused on LRMI and a set of national focus and what needed to be done for The “Workforce Readiness Project”, Common Core, Department of Labor and Department of Commerce. IlliniCloud has a focus on high school to work transition. These have been disconnected efforts in the past so it would be positive to connect. The InCommon pilot effort has started conversation around Identity Management and the Federated approach. This foundation will structure large linkages in the future. (This would be a good panel discussion for the workshop in February)
    4. Merit – They heard back from Canvas regarding direct federation. They said they cannot do this yet, but looking for follow up in 6-8 months. They are looking for an alternative IdP with SAML. They have reached out to more K-12. Shel to have conversation with them about this.
    5. MdREN – Continuing with Coursera and working on legal documentation with users.
    6. InCommon – Keith CoSN they have given the group a 30 minute time slot. Date and time to be confirmed. Jim from IlliniCloud/NCSA, will be able to attend
    7. Artifacts in progress? (e.g. case studies, use cases, recommendations, best practices, other learnings)
      1.                                       i.     No comments
    8. InCommon/Quilt Meeting in February
      1. Topic of scaling would be beneficial. Please share topics you would like to see with SteveO
    9. Business Models meeting update
      1. A small group met to explore potential business models for regional K-12 relationships. Looked at Roles and responsibilities in joining and what happens after, and what needs to happen and when. They have whittled down the potential models from six and are in the process of refining. Simple models moving to more complex models down the road. Goal was to come up with one that work for MCNC and get to the detail of how that would be implemented. Results of discussion will be circulated in the future.
