Announcements and Updates

  • Linking SSO WG update
    • Meetings have been scheduled; we have ~22 people who have expressed interest.
    • The first meeting will be organizational, in particular to select the co-chairs. It will probably another couple of weeks before the “heavy” work gets started.
  • The academic digital wallet group has been announced by Heather Flanagan of the TAC.
  • Subject identifier adoption group update
    • There's been no activity yet, but CACTI has declared its representatives.
  • A half-page draft of CACTI Accomplishments, Q1, 2022 is available. Please review by tomorrow, 3/30/2022.
    • Sorry for the short notice. This year is the first these are being done quarterly; we'll have more warning in the future.
  • Barry is retiring from Clemson this week. (Congratulations!). He’ll be continuing part-time at Clemson and stay with CACTI.

CACTI Themes for 2022

  • Chris suggested that we can use the cadence of T&I’s annual reports as an opportunity to describe a “whole world” view of what’s going on with respect to identity. Doing this can also help us set our priorities of what to investigate/discuss for the following year.
    • The idea is to describe the "temperature of the room," outlining significant IAM directions for research and education. The target audience is the decision makers who control resources and funding.
    • This will allow us to describe where we are going and/or change where we are going.
    • Microsoft and other technology companies are good at providing seminars for upper-level decision makers. This is an opportunity for us to do something similar from R&E's point of view.
    • Are we thinking of introducing quantitative information, such as survey results?
      • We can do so when it helps to provide an accurate picture of the situation. Surveying might also be done by other working groups, such as TAC or CTAB.
    • This would not be CACTI's only communication. There would, of course, be briefing papers and other documents on specific topics that are addressed during the year.
    • A challenge will be to tailor the annual overview to stay out of the weeds for decision makers, but be able to link to the weeds for technologists who will be consulted by the decision makers.
    • Another challenge will be not to overload readers. It will be important to be explicit about what merits attention over, say, the coming year, and what does not.
