Welcome to the 2023 ACAMP Unconference!

ACAMP Dates: Thursday Sept. 21 and Friday Sept 22, 2023
Location: Hilton, Minneapolis, MN (See program for specific meeting room)

We hope you have enjoyed CAMP Week at TechEX23 so far. Content that's dedicated to identity and access management continues for 1.5 more days with Advance CAMP (ACAMP). ACAMP is an unconference, where participants develop the agenda at the beginning of the event. ACAMP then continues with as many as five breakout sessions per hour to discuss issues of interest to the international research and education identity and access management community. Each ACAMP session is documented by a group scribing process.

EVERYTHING IS OK!

The ACAMP Unconference is a highly participatory gathering where attendees use an amazingly fast and fun process to create an on-the-spot agenda that addresses the topics of greatest interest to them and then go to breakout sessions to dig into those topics. The motto is “everything is OK!” You can:

  • Propose a topic if you want to pitch an idea, practice, or tool; or raise and delve into some problem. You don’t need to have the answers!
  • Propose a topic for which you hope others can provide their expertise or experience.
  • Coordinate (ahead of time on the IDEA BOARD or on the spot) with a group of attendees to use a session to get work done face-to-face.
  • If you’d like to propose a merger, change, or amplification, you can coordinate with the person who was first to put their session idea into the agenda. The ACAMP hosts will help facilitate those modifications.
  • If there are more proposals than time slots, we typically work to combine some topics if it makes sense - the hosts will help with this too.
  • Wondering how to make the most out of ACAMP? Participate! Ask questions at the breakout sessions and assist with the collaborative scribing, which will help the community and also help you follow the content.
  • Join in the fun! We haven't been together in the same room for a few years, and we are all excited about seeing each other and welcoming newcomers.

NEW AND IMPROVED!  Introducing the IDEA BOARD...(located in the food & beverage area)

To make the ACAMP agenda-setting process even more collaborative and engaging, we're introducing the ACAMP Idea Board, which will be prominently located in the food & beverage area - Monday-Thursday of the conference.

Here's how the ACAMP Idea Board will work:

  • Generate Your Ideas: Jot down your Advance CAMP (aka ACAMP) session ideas on a Post-It note (provided) on the Idea Board throughout the conference (Monday-Thursday).
    • Please include your full name, session title, and a brief description of the topic.

  • Collaborate and Connect: Your idea is now visible to others. Those interested in similar topics can easily identify and connect with you to coordinate or brainstorm together on a session for ACAMP.
    • Want to connect with someone? Leave them a message on the Board with how/where/when.
    • Note - there is no obligation or requirement to co-present!

  • No Guarantees, Just Opportunities: The Idea Board topics do not automatically guarantee a spot on the ACAMP agenda. This Board is only meant to be a collaborative space to network, share ideas, and possibly find co-presenters for ACAMP sessions.

Then, During ACAMP Agenda Setting
  • Post Your Ideas to the Agenda Board: To secure a slot on the ACAMP agenda, you’ll need to post your session idea (alone or with other collaborators) to the official ACAMP board on Thursday or Friday during the agenda-setting sessions.
  • First One in Gets Dibs: Whoever is the first to get their session idea onto the official ACAMP agenda gets priority to set the agenda session for that time slot. Anyone else who puts a sticky note with additional session ideas into that time slot needs to coordinate with the person who was first to put their session in.

We hope the ACAMP Idea Board will foster greater collaboration, encourage attendees to connect ahead of time, and provide newcomers with ample opportunity to offer and craft a session proposal. So, whether you're a seasoned ACAMP participant or attending for the first time, we encourage you to make the most of this exciting addition to our conference experience. Your innovative ideas are what make ACAMP such a dynamic part of TechEx. We can't wait to see the ideas that will emerge!
