Member universities are invited to participate in the design of the next generation NET+ Microsoft Cloud program to collectively design a service that is both differentiated from the standard offerings and, more specifically, one that is explicitly tailored to the needs of different constituents of our diverse research and education community. To support this design process, we will be scheduling several in-person design sessions at Microsoft Technology Centers or member universities in August. The confirmed dates, locations, and areas of focus are below.

Focus: Academic and Research Computing
Location: Microsoft Technology Center in Mountain View, CA
Date: Thursday, August 4, 2016
Agenda: 2016-08-04 Meeting agenda and notes

Focus: Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Support for Grant Funded Research
Location: University of Maryland Baltimore County in Baltimore, MD
Date: Thursday, August 11, 2016
Agenda: 2016-08-11 Meeting agenda and notes

The goals of each of these sessions and the overall effort will include:

  1. Assess adoption of cloud services for academic, administrative and research computing
  2. Identify current barriers to adoption of the Microsoft Cloud Platform and brainstorm solutions
  3. Review opportunities for using Microsoft Cloud services to support the full lifecycle of research for faculty/PIs and students
  4. Evaluate the role of the Internet2 Network, Microsoft ExpressRoute and the InCommon federation for access and authentication to Microsoft Cloud services
  5. Propose a differentiated and compelling bundle of capabilities that would form a NET+ program

If you are interesting in participating in this effort, please complete the short form indicating your contact information and areas of interest.  Even if you are not able to participate in person, we encourage all to contribute feedback for the benefit of the community.
