At Stockholm university sakai with extensions for shibboleth federated access was used to build mondo - a collaborative system for both traditional learning-oriented as well as project-oriented work. Shortly after the launch of mondo, the Swedish department of education decided to merge Stockholm university with The Stockholm Institute of Education. During the next semester (the merger being scheduled for 1/1 2008) mondo will be used together with federated access to provide a temporary solution for a common learning platform until the course-management systems have been merged. This illustrates how federated access to services can come into play even when all users are essentially under the same administrative control.

Sakais course-management API raises important questions about how to manage complicated information models (such as course information) in a federated setting.
